is it okay to just open up a can of beans and eat them straight out of the can? why or not?

Of course it is ok They come in the can, so obviously they are safe in it. Kind of lame if you have the ability to heat them, but I get that some people don't, or can't be bothered.

THERES NO REASON WHY YOU SHOULD'NT, IF YOU LIKE COLD BEANS.

I've done it many times and have never had a problem with it. Problems may arise if you open it, eat some, and then leave the rest in the can for later.

Sure. It's just a bit tacky. But who cares? If you want to eat them that way, go for it.

It's absolutely fine to do so - the beans are cooked and ready to eat.

IS it okay? Sure. But tastes better when heated.

If you want but personally I find they taste better warm.

The only situation I can think of where it's not OK is in a grocery store, where you borrow the can opener and the spoon from the store. Otherwise, your meal is your business. I've done that (in my house) but generally heat them a bit and add a bit of spice or sauce for more flavor. Yest to beans from a can!

The sludge. It's technically edible but it's not appetizing to me. Rinse that off in a colander, I may have done a bowl and bare hand thing in a pinch, and then you can just eat them like that. Black beans rinsed without extra cooking out of the can can be great on salads with bacon or themselves with a splash of Tabasco.
