Several sources say they have the vaccine already, but it has to be tested extensively before the government can approve and let it be used.

Vaccine appears more likely but it will be many, many months before they  have one and it can be produced in sufficient quantities.  Drugs, who know what existing drug or combination of drugs might work.

Viruses are tough. There's no vaccination against the common cold, and the flu vaccine only works a certain percentage of the time. Viruses keep changing, so immunity is never lifelong. I wouldn't put all my hopes on a vaccine. A better bet would be herd immunity, at least in the short term. And if we could all self-isolate, the virus would vanish in about 14 days because it can't live if it can't be passed on to a new host. What may come out of this is that we'll all learn to wash our hands more, which would protect us against colds and the flu.

About a year if all the other flu jabs are anything to go by.
