My Mom's cousin just died of COVID-19. How do I get her to let me join her at the funeral when they have it after the pandemic is over?

Right now he has simply been cremated but they are going to have a funeral at a later time open to all. We live in Maryland and this cousin lives in Yorktown Heights, NY. I know his kids from childhood and knew him. I also know his mother who survives, my grandmother's sister. Yet, my parents find it disturbing that I attend funerals for anyone other then next of kin, grandparents, or in some cases someone local. I feel if I went to the funeral for my brother's friend's father then I surely should for a relative who I know alot more.

How old are you?  Is there some reason you need your parent's permission to go to a funeral?
