should the 2020 elections be postponed until next year to prevent the virus crises from re-surging this fall?
just as the japan has postponed the 2020 olympics?
@anonymous: the presidency would not be vacant for a year. president trump would simply continue on in his duties as he is now. we all know he's certain to win re-election anyway so at this point the election is merely a formality.
@anonymous: we cannot have mail in ballots or electronic voting because it isn't secure. the russians will try to interfere with our election again. we cannot allow russian operatives to mail in millions of false ballots or hack into our electronic voting system and destroy the results of our election. the only way to keep the russians from interfering is by voting in person showing valid voter ids.

The 1918 general election took place amidst a pandemic that was killing millions so I doubt there'd be much appetite for postponing 2020 when only tens of thousands are dying.

Nope, they have mail in ballots and most locations are beginning electronic voting.

The civil war didn't halt elections........WW1......WW2..... Korean War, Vietnam war.........none of them halted elections.
neither will this.

That's not the question. The US constitution has no provision for postponing them, so you can't even if you want to.

No. There's really no provision for that and I expect that there will be treatments and/or a vaccine for the virus long before then.

Trump will rule by decree until a vaccine is developed. It’s like a Bond movie.

No, and that can't be done, without the support of both houses of Congress. My feeling is that if Trump doesn't get this situation under control, almost no one will want him to continue. Already 40% of Trump supporters feel he hasn't done a good job in dealing with the pandemic.

At this point Biden has disappeared and Sanders doesn’t stand a chance
It would be fine to just call the election for Trump and hold the next election in 2024

We don't postpone federal elections, so no.

Sure. The office of the presidency can remain vacant until we can have the election.
