Does making your opponent look bad work?

This is the act of having a separate account where you greatly over-exaggerate and parody the views of your opponent to get them to see how utterly ridiculous they sound. So one might pretend to be a Christian who goes to St. Jude's to tell all the Children that they need to convert to Christianity or God will damn them to eternal torment in hell.

"You think this chemo is bad? Just wait until you're burning in hellfire."

It's utterly ridiculous right? And I would hope that some people would look back and say "wow, is that what I seem to other people?" and perhaps change their perspective on themselves and their beliefs, but it seems to me that some only take offense at these portrayals rather than learning from them.

    Romans 12:20-21

Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. [21] Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

No, it doesn't work, but it's a little concerning that certain extremists are almost impossible to parody.

Opponent about what? If it is about a god or that Jesus thing, nobody believes either one without being taught to believe it.

The best defense is a strong offense. And deflection is a popular offensive subterfuge here. They have no valid replies so they reverse the challenge. They attack the claims by attacking the claimants themselves. Grown men acting like children. Some here like people throughout scripture think that can destroy Gods messages by destroying his messengers. But of course that never works. He just sends more. And then those people die and meet their Maker, and find themselves in eternal hell wishing forever they'd never been born. End of story.

Only in politics, and a need to become your own

outside source, since you can't make the point on your own.

It's 'kinda like the way that Christ-based faith needs an outside

account called "Jesus" because it can't explain God.

    POE.

The more savvy internet users pick up on it, and the ones who are fooled are looking for any reason to justify an opinion based largely on emotion.

It is effective only among those who are unfamiliar with the tactic. Here on Yahoo! Answers, that sort of thing has been going on for well over a decade.
